Hello everyone! Welcome back to the blog! I have been watching so many skincare videos recently, and I realized that I have learned a lot about the subject over the years that I have been doing skincare (for reference, since I was 13, when this website was born!) and I really would love to share my knowledge and favorite products with you all. I did the question sticker on my Instagram story and asked everyone to ask any skincare questions, and you guys delivered! Without further ado, here are my responses to everyone’s amazing questions 🙂
What moisturizer do you like that doesn’t make you oily?
This is such a good question that I wish had been answered for me in sixth grade when I looked like a glazed donut lol. I have normal to combo skin so my T-zone tends to get shiny, so moisturizers that combat this and still hydrate my skin were difficult to find. It took me years, but I have finally found one that does the job. Right now I am using the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel and I absolutely love it.
How do you get rid of/fade scarring?
This is definitely something that can be super tricky, especially when you have a darker skin tone, as the scarring is more visible due to high melanin content. Sun protection helps a lot, as exposure to the sun will just make your dark spots more visible. For all my black girls, an invisible sunscreen (aka one that DOES NOT leave a white cast due to it being transparent) I love is the SUPERGOOP! Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40. It has a silicone, primer consistency so it does not leave your skin feeling greasy as well. Vitamin C serums at night can also help fade scarring, as well as diluted tea tree oil.
What toner do you recommend?
Currently, I am using the Thayers ROSE Witch Hazel. It’s super affordable and makes my skin feel super clean without feeling dry. It is also alcohol and fragrance-free.
What do you do about pimples?
Pimples are definitely super irritating and annoying, and they can be difficult to prevent and get rid of. Some little things I do are: washing my face at the end of my shower so that no products will get on my skin and clog my pores, do face masks in the shower so the steam can penetrate the mask deeper, and use a SEPARATE, CLEAN washcloth to pat my skin dry. These small steps along with staying consistent with my routine cleared my skin immensely.
Should I use a toner? What’s it even for?
Toners remove dirt, grime, and oil that may have gone deep into your pores and cleans out any excess makeup that your cleanser may have missed. Toner also resets the pH balance of your skin which is important to maintain a strong, healthy skin barrier.
What’s a good cleanser?
The cleanser I use at the moment is the philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser. It is super gentle and removes any extra makeup and all of the impurities off of your skin without stripping it of its natural oils. My face feels so smooth, clean and dewy after using this cleanser.
How is your skin so amazing?
LOL thank you so much! Genetics are amazing (thanks mom haha) and my mom told me that ever since I was a baby she put Cetaphil body cream-which I still use as a nighttime moisturizer to this day- and a sunscreen (ESP SUNSCREEN) all over my body and face so that my skin could stay moisturized and protected. When I was younger, she always emphasized putting the Cetaphil on my face and body as well, and then in middle school, I started simply researching skincare through Youtube, etc.
Any good moisturizers?
As stated before, I love the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. I also really loved the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. At night, I love Cetaphil Body Creme as a moisturizer.
Love you all!
